Description

 

This level 3 OFQUAL regulated and accredited RQF Activity First  Aid training course complies with the guidelines and criteria as defined by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) in respect of the 1981 (First Aid) Regulations.  Delegates will learn the skills and knowledge to provide  First Aid treatment to their casualties in a prompt, safe and effective manner.  The topics covered in this  course are in accordance with current guidelines published by the Resuscitation Council (UK).


This Level 3  qualification is  designed to provide the knowledge and competence required for a learner to deal with a range of first aid situations with a focus on sports and activity related conditions. The qualification is suitable for learners working in outdoor and activity environments or involved in voluntary and community activities. Day 1 content of  this course is suitable for learners wishing to act as an Emergency First Aider in the Workplace.

 

 

Duration

 

This training course is taught for 12 hours over a minimum of 2 days and consists of theoretical and practical sessions. This 12 hours Activity First aid  training course can also be spread over a maximum of 6 weeks, ensuring that each session is a minimum of two hours (subject to extra cost). The class ratio for this qualification is a maximum of 12 learners to 1 Trainer/Assessor.

Day 1


 

  • Roles and responsibilities of the First Aider
  • Legislation
  • First Aid box and contents
  • The Accident Record form
  • Basic hygiene and infection control in First Aid 
  • Assessment of an incident
  • Primary survey and Agonal Gasping
  • Secondary assessment and Recovery position
  • Dealing with an unresponsive casualty
  • Resuscitation and CPR
  • Identify how to perform CPR for:

• children

• victims of drowning

  • Automated External Defibrillator (AED) use training
  • Respiratory System and Choking
  • Epilepsy
  • Minor injuries
  • Wounds and Bleeding control
  • Circulatory System and Shock
  • Minor Burns and Foreign Bodies


 

 

Day 2


 

  • The secondary assessment
  • Bones, joints and muscle injuries
  • Demonstrate how to apply:

• a support sling

• an elevated sling

  • Head and spinal injuries
  • Chest and abdominal injuries
  • Specialised burn injuries
  • Eye injuries
  • Poisoning
  • Anaphylaxis and auto injector training
  • Bites and Stings
  • Major illnesses including Heart Attack, Diabetes, Epilepsy and Asthma
  • Effects of extreme heat and cold

Assessment

 

Assessment is ongoing by the instructor. The qualification is assessed through practical demonstration and oral questioning. Scenarios will be set to enable a learner to demonstrate their knowledge and practical skills. During the practical assessment, the learner will be asked supporting questions by the Trainer/Assessor. The practical assessment is ongoing throughout the course but the Trainer/Assessor will make learners aware of when they are being assessed.


The learner must satisfactorily complete each scenario to successfully pass the practical assessment. There is no grading of the assessment; learners pass or are referred. Trainer/Assessors may also ask a learner additional questions if felt necessary to confirm their knowledge and understanding.

 

 

Certification

 

An OFQUAL  Regulated RQF  Level 3 First Aid at Work course certificate  lasting three years will be issued  subject to successful completion of the course by the delegate. The qualification is valid for three years from the date of achievement. The learner will need to complete the full course again to requalify for a further three years. It is strongly recommended that the learner attends annual refresher training

 

 

Important Information

 

Please note that delegates must be at least 18 years of age and be physically able to carry out the procedures detailed in the course outline and must attend all sessions to be eligible for assessment.

 

Delegates should have good English literacy and numeracy skills to understand the course and to complete the assessments.

 

Please also note that ID will need to be checked at the outset of the course for candidate verification process.

 

  • The training room should be quiet and of appropriate size.
  • Staff should be off work and not expected to be on duty.
  • Staff attending should remain on the course for the entire duration of the training course.
