Basic Life Support and Dental Medical Emergencies course
This course complies with the guidelines and criteria as defined by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) in respect of the 1981 (First Aid) Regulations and also satisfies the General Dental Council requirements for verifiable CPD training.
The General Dental Council emphasises that “all dental professionals are responsible for putting patients interests first, and acting to protect them”. As part of that commitment all dental professionals must undertake continuous professional development (CPD). Medical emergencies are one of the three core subjects which must be covered in any 5 year CPD cycle. The GDC recommend a minimum of 10 hours is spent on medical emergencies in that time period, with a recommendation of at least 2 hours CPD conducted in this subject every year. The course content of this course aims to cover "Outcome C" of the GDC CPD requirements.
Delegates will learn the skills and knowledge to provide Emergency First Aid treatment to their casualties in a prompt, safe and effective manner and how to deal with and manage the specific medical emergencies listed below in the dental practice setting. The topics covered in this course are in accordance with current guidelines published by the Resuscitation Council (UK).
This course is taught over 4 hours and consists of theoretical and practical sessions.

Please note that it is a requirement that candidates must be at least 16 years of age and physically able to carry out the procedures detailed in the course outline and must attend all sessions to be eligible for assessment.
Candidates should have good English literacy and numeracy skills to understand the course and to complete the assessments.
