Dental Medical Emergencies course
This course complies with the guidelines and criteria as defined by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) in respect of the 1981 (First Aid) Regulations and also satisfies the General Dental Council requirements for verifiable CPD training.
The General Dental Council emphasises that “all dental professionals are responsible for putting patients interests first, and acting to protect them”. As part of that commitment all dental professionals must undertake continuous professional development (CPD). Medical emergencies are one of the three core subjects which must be covered in any 5 year CPD cycle. The GDC recommend a minimum of 10 hours is spent on medical emergencies in that time period, with a recommendation of at least 2 hours CPD conducted in this subject every year.
Delegates will learn the skills and knowledge to deal with casualties with specific medical emergencies listed below in a prompt, safe and effective manner in the dental practice setting. Candidates should have prior knowledge of basic life support proceedures such as CPR and Recovery position prior to attending this course. The topics covered in this course are in accordance with current guidelines published by the Resuscitation Council (UK).

Assessment is ongoing by the instructor. There will be a short quiz at the end of the course which includes multiple choice and short answer questions.
A HSE compliant certificate of course attendance from MEDISAFE TRAINING will be emailed within 48 hours to the lead person subject to successful completion of the course by the delegate. Hard copy certificates can be provided at additional cost per certificate.
In addition to the individual delegate certificates, your Dental Practice will also receive a certificate to display on your wall or notice board, showing that the above course has been delivered at your practice.
Please note that it is a requirement that candidates must be at least 16 years of age and physically able to carry out the procedures detailed in the course outline and must attend all sessions to be eligible for assessment.
Candidates should have good English literacy and numeracy skills to understand the course and to complete the assessments.
