Description

 

This course complies with the guidelines and criteria as defined by the General Dental Council requirements for verifiable CPD training. Delegates will learn the skills and knowledge to provide Emergency First Aid treatment to their casualties in a prompt, safe and effective manner and how to deal with and manage the specific medical emergencies listed below in the dental practice setting. The topics covered in this course are in accordance with current guidelines published by the Resuscitation Council (UK).

 

The General Dental Council emphasises that “all dental professionals are responsible for putting patients interests first, and acting to protect them”.  As part of that commitment all dental professionals must undertake continuous professional development (CPD). Medical emergencies are one of the three core subjects which must be covered in any 5 year CPD cycle. The GDC recommend a minimum of 10 hours is spent on medical emergencies in that time period, with a recommendation of at least 2 hours CPD conducted in this subject every year. The course content of this course aims to cover "Outcome C" of the GDC CPD requirements.

This course is taught over 4 hours and consists of theoretical and practical sessions.

  • Primary Survey and Agonal gasping
  • Adult and Child Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
  • Automated External Defibrillator (AED) awareness training
  • Secondary Assessment
  • Recovery position Practical
  • ABCDE patient assessment approach
  • BNF recommended minimum Equipment for Resuscitation
  • Oxygen, face mask, face shield, BVM, OPA, suction
  • BNF recommended minimum Medical Emergency drugs
  • Medical emergencies:
  1. Heart Attack
  2. Stroke
  3. Asthma
  4. Asthma
  5. Anaphylaxis
  6. Adrenal Insufficiency
  7. Airway obstruction
  8. Hypoglycaemia
  9. Fainting/Syncope

Assessment

 

Assessment is ongoing by the instructor. 

 

 

Certification

 

A course completion from MEDISAFE TRAINING will be emailed within 72 hours to the lead person subject to successful completion of the course by the delegate. Hard copy certificates can be provided at additional cost per certificate.

 


Important Information 

 

Please note that it is a requirement that candidates must be at least 16 years of age and physically able to carry out the procedures detailed in the course outline and must attend all sessions to be eligible for assessment.

 

Candidates should have good English literacy and numeracy skills to understand the course and to complete the assessments.

 

Please also note that  ID will need to be checked at the outset of the course for candidate verification process. 

 

  • The training room should be quiet and of appropriate size.
  • Staff should be off work and not expected to be on duty.
  • Staff attending should remain on the course for the entire duration of the training course.
